National Scheme on Welfare of Fishermen
The programme by the National government called the “National Scheme of Welfare of Fishermen” that was a schemed specifically designed for the betterment of the lives of the fishermen, that included the construction of living spaces for them, water facilities that were integral for their sustenance, plus added facilities that help them to tide through the non-fishing periods where they have no financial support. This was part of the 9th five year plan and then again restarted in the 10th five year plan. The amount designated for the support of the fishermen totals to about Rs. 120 Crore.
Components of the Schemes
Though, this is primarily executed as a National Schemed that this is funded by the Central government and the state governments, UTs and the FISHCOPFED ably supported them, the three groups could be:
Creation and upkeep of the villages for the fishermen.
Linking the fishermen going out into the sea under the cover of the group insurance in case of accidents.
Sensible savings schemes and relief activities.
